M - Bernard Lee

Bond's boss is a little less crusty during this mission - despite the fact that 007 damages a priceless painting in his office by firing a dart into it while experimenting with Q's wrist gun device. When Bond stages a raid on Drax's Venetian headquarters which backfires, M gives his top agent the benefit of the doubt and suggests he takes a leave of absence to pursue the case privately. Later, M greets Bond in the Brazilian HQ of MI6, where they discuss strategy regarding Drax's activities. Sadly, this was Bernard Lee's last performance as M. He dies before production began on the next Bond film. Fans and co-workers will long remember the dignity he brought to the role and his contributions to the eleven films in which he appeared cannot be overestimated.
