M - Bernard Lee

After his ill-tempered appearance in 'The Man With The Golden Gun', a more traditional M appears in this film. In fact, he even gives Bond a rare 'well done' for besting Anya in his knowledge of facts about the Stromberg link to the missing subs. M is also on excellent terms with General Gogol, who refers to him by his first name, Miles (the only time his Christian name is mentioned in the course of the series).
