General Orlov - Stevan Berkoff

In an era of increasing détente, Orlov finds himself out of step with the more pragmatic bureaucrats in the Kremlin who are looking to improve relations with the West. Orlov is a hot-tempered, power-crazed relic of the rapidly diminishing hard-line Communist order. He comes within one second of realizing his dream of a nuclear holocaust in Western Europe. Ironically, he meets his demise when he is shot by Soviet troops loyal to the Kremlin. Orlov is played by noted stage and screen actor Stevan Berkoff, but his performance - quite good throughout the remainder of the film - has a shaky start with his over-the-top speech before the Kremlin leaders. Here, Berkoff's impact is far less effective than the quiet rage exuded by General Gogol.
